Tang poetry, Song lyrics and Yuan songs are masterpieces created by the Chinese people from the seventh to the fourteenth centuries. In Yuan songs we can find Tang heroism degenerate into pessimism, Song rationalism into passivism, their lyricism poplularized, but their criticism continued and colloquialism developed.  So far as the form is concerned, the Yuan songs admit more freely the use of everyday colloquial speech, the idiom and the slang of common people. Yuan songs may be classified into three types, namely, short song, song sequenece and dramatic song. This book includes 300 short songs which consits of only one stanza (a song sequence of more than two or three).
