《宝儿》是根据清代蒲松龄《聊斋志异》中的《贾儿》改编而成。《聊斋志异》是一部文言短篇小说集，里面记有传奇、志怪、轶事等等，多采自民间传说和野史轶闻。“聊斋”是蒲松龄的书屋名，“志”是记述的意思，“异”指奇异的故事。据说，“蒲松龄在写《聊斋志异》时，曾摆了一个小茶摊，请来往喝茶的人给他讲故事，然后赋予这些故事更为神奇的生命力，成为书中迷人的传说。
蒲松龄是山东人，他一生家境贫寒，生活清苦，历经四十余年，才完成一部《聊斋志异》。他曾在《聊斋自志》中说：“集腋为袭，妄续幽冥之录；浮白载笔，仅成孤愤之书：寄托如此，亦足悲矣！”读《聊斋志异》，我们应透过浮于表面的神怪仙狐，浸润在蒲松龄深沉的情感世界当中。
