The book is compiled for foreign students without any knowledge about Chinese to master basic spoken Chinese. There are 16 lessons and each has two parts. It can be used for short-term course (within four weeks with 20 classes each week). The main features of the textbook include:

1.Practicability: the book focuses on everyday and common communication situations to train the oral communication skills;
2.Simplicity: the book uses the simplest and most direct expressions;
3.Integrity: the integrity of the sentence grammar is also emphasized to teach the students to use complete sentences to express themselves correctly;
4.Controllability: both the difficult and amount of grammar rules, vocabulary, text length and sentence patters are strictly controlled so that they are distributed in the texts evenly to accommodate to the recognition and acceptance by the learners starting from zero;
5.Repetition: the repetition of the language information helps the learners to memorize language points effectively;
6.Step-by-Step Progress: the grammar rules are arranged from the simple to the difficult so as to facilitate the acceptance by the learners.
　
本书是一本初级汉语阶段的口语会话教材，教学对象是零起点的外国学生。全书共16课，每课有两个部分，最适用于四周以内（每周20学时）的短期班课堂教学。
该教材的主要特点是：
1．实用性：以学生日常生活中最常用、最急需的交际情景话题为主要教学内容，着重训练学生听和说的言语交际技能；
2．简洁性：选用最简单的、尽可能单一化的基本句式和表达方式，不但易于教师说明，而且利于学生理解、归纳、记忆及运用。
3．完整性：突出句法的完整性，以培养学生具备使用完整句式来进行正确表达的能力；
4．可控性：在词汇、语法、篇幅、句长的数量上，均有控制性地进行限制，并使之较均匀地分布在每课的各部分中，以符合零起点学生的认知能力与实际可接受性；
5．重复性：重视提高所输入语言信息的重现率；
6．递进性：由易而难、由简到繁地编排语法项目。尽量使之前后相关的序列相依。
