The Kitchen God is a part of the traditional Chinese New Year celebration. Its origins are from an ancient Chinese belief that the Kitchen God watches over each family. He makes an annual trip to heaven on the 23rd day of the last month, just before Chinese New Year. While there, he reports on the family's behavior for the year. This traditional Chinese New Year decoration represents the Kitchen God, and is hung in the kitchen, above the stove.
